Innovative Bank was originally established in 1982 as the Bank of Oakland. The bank has evolved and grown through the years including the opening of our first branch in 1990 in the heart of Oakland's Chinese business district to better service that community. Also in 1990, we established our SBA lending department to provide the community with lending products suited to the growing demands of the area.

In 1991, we became a member of Visa, USA and MasterCard, Inc. to offer our business customers the ability to process their credit card merchant drafts. During 1999 the bank obtained its Preferred Lender Participant status from the Small Business Administration (SBA) allowing the bank to provide faster response to the business needs of the community and our customers.

On April 2, 2001 private investors with the desire to continue to provide the best products and service to our customers purchased the Bank of Oakland. To meet this goal, the bank has upgraded all systems and technology to deliver a higher level of service to include online banking at the website you are now visiting. As of January 23, 2002 the Bank of Oakland changed its name to Innovative Bank. The new name says it all. Innovative Bank, striving to provide innovative solutions for your business and personal banking needs.

As an SBA "Preferred Lender," we are committed in helping small size businesses, resulting in the funding of smaller loans to more borrowers under the SBA Express Programs. Since 2003, Innovative Bank approved and funded more than 11,000 SBA 7(a) loans making us the 4th largest* 7(a) lender nationwide for the last two years and a major supporter of multi-ethnic businesses.
